What is Positional Plagiocephaly?
- A persistent flattening on one side or the back of your baby’s head.
- Results from muscular torticollis, prematurity or back sleeping.
- May be common with multiple births.
- Increasing numbers of babies noted over the past couple of years.
Signs & Symptoms include:
- Flattening on one part of the head.
- Ear on the flattened side pushed forward and/or one ear higher than the other.
- Asymmetrical forehead, neck or jaw.
- Asymmetrical eye size.
- Tight neck muscles due to positioning of head to a preferred side.
- With torticollis (shortening of neck muscle), see head turned/tilted to one side.
- Babies may present with developmental delay due to weakness- can be subtle.
